23 Week Update

We are now 23 weeks, and everything is going great! Other than an UTI off and on the last 2 weeks, I have hardly any complaints. Mackenzie is getting more excited every day, and rubs her baby sister often. Our next OB visit is on February 12 for our diabetes testing--hopefully I will fail that test!
In other news, Mackenzie has been battling a nasty cold since Wednesday. Finally, tonight after constant coughing and no relief from cough syrup we headed to Children's Healthcare. After only 45 minutes, we left with a diagnoses of...an EAR INFECTION!!!! Mackenzie hasn't had one in over 2 years. She had not (and still hasn't) complained of any ear pain, only a sore throat. So here's hoping that Amoxicillan works, and no nasty side effects. We haven't had a RX filled since her last ear infection, so we're keeping a close eye.
And now, a belly pic...
(are they sure I'm only 23 weeks?!)

Pretty Nails!

Mackenzie has been going with me to get my nails done (which happens sporadically) and loves getting her nails painted. She cracks me up--she sits like such a big girl in the chair, and keeps her hands very still. She only lets one of the women at the salon paint her nails, and will wait patiently until it's her turn. We went Wednesday morning before work, and Mackenzie picked out a very pale, sparkly pink. When she sat in the chair, she told the lady, "Oh, wait, I need another pink." So, our nice lady got a bright, hot pink polish and brought it over. She painted that on, and started to lead Mackenzie to the "purple light" to dry. Mackenzie stopped her, and said, "I need the other pink on too!" So, she made her own color, and it turned out beautiful!

Warm & Cozy VS Cold & Wet!

Monday night we actually had a little bit of snow! It stuck to the deck outside, and Mackenzie was begging to go out and play.

Cuddling in front of the fire!

Playdate with Daddy

Today Jon and our friend David took Mackenzie and David's two daughters on a playdate. They were up early and headed to Monkey Joe's. All 3 girls had a blast (except when an employee dressed up as Monkey Joe--I had no idea they did that--scared the snot out of them!). David, his wife Dawn, and their youngest, Olivia met us for dinner tonight. The girls have such a good time together--we're going to have to do this way more often. We enjoyed it, guys!
Taking a break:-)

It's a ...

We had our ultrasound today, and we're having another girl! This is very good news, because Mackenzie was NOT going to be happy with a brother. We were so excited to see our new little girl, and Kenzie had a blast pointing out all the body parts. On the way to the doctor, she asked if she could go pick out "purple pajamas" for the baby. We agreed that if the baby was a girl, we could get them. So after the ultrasound, off we went to Target where Mackenzie picked out the first outfit for her little sister! We are at 20.5 weeks now, and everything is going great. I've only gained 4 pounds, but I expect that will change quickly as the baby keeps growing. (I was very proud that with Mackenzie I gained 29 pounds, and lost all of it in 2 weeks!) The normal size of a 20 week gestation baby is 10.5 ounces and 6.6 cm long, and our nugget is weighing in at 14 ounces and 15.2cm long!

In other news, Mackenzie is potty-trained! She has done really well, with only a couple of accidents the first week, and NO ACCIDENTS since last Monday. My only dilemma--she has no butt, so her pants fall down and give her plumber's crack!!! She is very proud of herself, and loves all her new big-girl panties!

On New Year's Eve, Aunt Heather came over for a much needed night of fun. She and Jon played the Wii for a couple of hours, and Mackenzie decided to get in on the fun. Enjoy!

New Year, New Blog!

Happy New Year! A brand new blog for 2009! We had such a great 2008, and are excited to see what the new year brings.
To start the new year off right, we started potty training Mackenzie this week. She has had no interest in using the potty, and we didn't push since she didn't have to go school. But with the new baby coming, and knowing that she's definitely smart enough to figure it out, we decided this week would be perfect--all the Christmas celebrations were over, and Jon and I had some days off so we could tackle her together. We started on Tuesday. When Jon got off work, he met me at my office and took Mackenzie home for her nap. After nap-time, Jon showed her that all her diapers were gone and let her pick out a pair of panties. About an hour later, she came up to Jon and told him she needed to go, and lo and behold, she went!!! No accidents on Tuesday. She did go #2 on Wednesday in the potty, which surprised me. Today, Thursday, no accidents, and she even went out to Target and McDonalds. (So, only 1 accident since Tuesday!) We are so proud of her, and believe me, she is very proud of herself.

Happy New Year!
